Christine’s passion for care provision started at a young age when she experienced a rare autoimmune disorder, rendering her paralyzed from the waist-down for 2 weeks. She was inspired by the care and compassion of the clinicians that aided her in regaining her ability to walk again. Not only was she able to ambulate again, but she placed 3rd in a city-wide track and field competition in the 100 meter dash that year. She was granted rare insights into paralysis and has taken that experience to foster a drive to help others.
She began her career with the Edmonton Down Syndrome Society, running groups to encourage children to practice skills to reach developmental milestones. Subsequently, she became a Home Care Case Manager with Alberta Health Services, providing occupational therapy services and care management to a caseload of approximately 60 clients. While in this position, Ms. Feehan took on the role of becoming the Clinical Best Practice Representative on behalf of her network and also mentored new staff members and practicum students. She honed skills in assessing clients’ functional abilities and worked within their capacities for physical/cognitive/mental health rehabilitation. Meanwhile maintaining consideration of available supports and financial resources.
